My Life After The United States - 1273 Words

My Life, My Story, My Future Do you know the struggles and how immigrants feel about leaving their whole life behind in their native country? Well, I should know, since I am an immigrant who has migrated from The Dominican Republic to the United States. A lot of people do not know how difficult it is for people to leave their countries, it has been five years since I came to the United States. The situation was very hard for my family and I. Since I was 2 years old, I have lived with my father, but I have always been really close with my mother. My father and my grandmother decided that moving to the United States would be a great opportunity for me and my siblings. I was excited, but at the same time it was a very difficult decision because I had to leave my mother behind. For instance, saying goodbye to my mother was the hardest standpoint that I have had to face in my life. I know that for my mother it was even harder to accept the decision, she tried her best to be strong and no t cry in front of me. I was only thirteen years old and I have let my emotions overflow, when I turned to face her and said the last goodbye, she was on her knees crying. Until this day those memories of our separation still linger; that was the end of one chapter in my life, but the beginning of a new one. I had to prepare myself mentally for a new environment, new friends, new school and a whole different educational system.
